Longreef is one of those bands that the first time you hear them you are blown away, and that the more you hear, the more you realize what a phenomenal and solid band they really are. 4 guys from Australia, now living in Pensacola/Perdido Key Florida, these guys have been hard at work for the past year and a half or so playing tons of shows all over the US including festivals like the original Deluna Fest on Pensacola Beach. Sharing the stage with bands like Seether, Gary Allan and Taproot, Longreef played over 150 shows in 11 states and 30 cities this past year, and are gathering a growing and loyal following from giving not only amazing shows, but being some of the nicest guys around that always have time to talk to the fans. This year they are planning to visit even more cities and the Longreef 2012 tour is sure to be rocking!
Last year, their debut single Lonely, included on their debut Longreef EP reached 33 in the Billboard Top 40 R&R radio charts, and they are on the verge of releasing a music video for their second single “She Likes the Ladies” which is sure to be a hit! While the band has a large repertoire of fantastic covers, they stand apart from a lot of bands because they have some great songwriting talent and are putting out top rate original songs. From their first single Lonely, to other great originals like “7am”, “Can’t Live Without”, and the upcoming “She Likes the Ladies”, Longreef is making their mark by creating fantastic original music. Coming out soon and available through iTunes, Amazon, and at all their live shows will be their DVD “Live at the BLVD”, and their highly anticipated second EP “Dirty Motel”.
Longreef are regulars at the Pensacola Fish House and Live Bait in Orange Beach, and can also be seen at other close by venues like Bamboo Willie’s at Pensacola Beach, A.j.s in Destin, and the IP Casino in Biloxi. The lead singer Josh has an amazing voice that is always right on pitch, and is one of those rare vocalists that imparts the true emotion behind a song. Nick Miller, the lead guitarist is incredible and can shred with the best of them – all great guitarists have a unique sound, especially when playing originals, and Nick is no exception; he can make his guitar sing, weep, and scream at will. Jim Wark not only plays a hard driving bass, but provides some great harmonies for Josh, and takes over lead vocals on some songs to give the band a full and melodic sound. Rounding it out and keeping it together, Aaron Carruthers brings the ever on time drumbeats, always keeping it and the band tight and even occasionally switching places with Josh for a song or two. Longreef’s live shows are always amazing and the energy that reciprocates between the crowd and band grows from the beginning to end of each show.
After having seen Longreef play many times, I can say that their shows are “must see”, and the guys are “must meet”. I have always come away from one of their live shows feeling highly energized, and often find myself humming one of their original songs.
