Saturday June 9th is the official ceremony for the grand opening of the Community Maritime Park in downtown Pensacola.
Although there were years of battles in getting it started, the Pensacola Vince J Whibbs Sr. Community Maritime Park is open and here to stay. Featuring a beautiful new stadium for Pensacola’s own Blue Wahoos baseball team, and to include a calendar of recreational and cultural offerings, the multi-use park will host a number of events for its grand opening.
On the schedule for Saturday:
9:00 AM – Run/Walk around the park with goodie bags biven out at the ending – first 100 to register will receive a commemorative t-shirt
10:00 AM – Arts festival, “Touch a Truck” event, and activities on the community stage including cultural and youth presentations, local vendors, and a vehicle display showcasing emergency vehicles. Food/Drinks will be available from vendors and at the stadium concessions.
11:00 AM – Blue Wahoos baseball team hosting the Heater Hamburger Eating Contest on the stadiums right field deck. Free hotdogs to the first 1,000 kids under 12 in the stadium from 11-12. Register for the contest at http://bluewahoos.com
12:30 PM – Official ribbon cutting ceremony at the Randall K. and Martha J. Hunter Amphitheater.
4:00 – 7:00 PM – Free hot air balloon rides and a huge play zone featuring , bungee wall, bounce house, dunk tank, hamster water balls, rock climbing wall and Velcro wall.

Following the Charlie Daniels Band there will be a fireworks display
